Here are 3 reasons why cussing is wrong according to the Bible:
➊ The same mouth can't praise and curse. James 3:9-10 says, "With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be." ➋ God wants us to use our words to build others up. Ephesians 4:29 says, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." ➌ We are to think good thoughts. Philippians 4:8 says, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Jesus says in Matthew 15:18 that "that the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them." You may not be cursing out loud, but have you checked your thoughts? Also remember that God will hold us accountable for every word we say. Matthew 12:36-37 says, "But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." With that in mind, we should use our words for good, think good thoughts, and love others, just as we are instructed to do in the Bible. - NOTE: I'm in no way trying to start an argument. Please don't think that I'm saying this like I'm perfect, because I'm not even close! I sometimes struggle with this too (mostly ➌) and want to write this help you, not judge or criticize you.
