I recently finished reading Own Your Everyday by Jordan Lee Dooley. I enjoyed it so much that I thought it would be fun to write a book review about it! The whole concept behind the title “Own Your Everyday” is that sometimes, we must work diligently during the seemingly mundane moments of our life because they can lead to bigger and better things. As Jordan puts it: “Yes, girl, I hope you do big things and go after your wildest dreams. But guess what? To do the big, cool things, you gotta start with and show up for the small, not-so-cool everyday things. There is no way around that.” Now that you know a little bit about what Own Your Everyday is about, let’s get to the book review! My Ratings (out of 5 stars) Overall: 5 stars Book Layout: 5 stars
Content: 5 stars
Writing Style: 5 stars
My Biggest Takeaway from Own Your Everyday Insecurity has become very common in this world. I personally feel confident in many areas of life, but there are still times where I feel insecure. (Click here to read a previous blog post about my story of Overcoming Insecurity.) Thankfully, that is one of the topics that Jordan writes about. The most important thing that I have learned about insecurity and confidence is this: If we search for our value in worldly standards such as our appearance or our accomplishments, then we will never feel completely confident or satisfied. In order to reach worldly standards, we must be perfect. However, we are not perfect people. That is why God sent Jesus to die for us. In addition, worldly standards are always changing, so it requires so much effort to keep up with the world. That is where the pressure to prove and the pressure to constantly measure up comes from. However, we can feel truly confident when we find our value in who God says we are. This is because our value in Christ is already defined by Him and it does not change no matter what we do or what we do not do. Here are some other lessons that I learned from Own Your Everyday:
